Cake fillings at Vanilla Cake are chosen together with the sponge: we have three sponges — vanilla, chocolate and red velvet, all with cream cheese — and each has its own list of fillings. The rule is simple: 1 sponge + 1 filling. In short, for something lighter go for vanilla sponge with berries; for something richer, chocolate sponge with caramel or with peanut and caramel; and for a cake that makes an impression, red velvet with strawberry, cherry or raspberry. Below you will find the full lists, tips on choosing a filling for the occasion and your guests’ tastes, and how to select your flavour when you order a cake in Baku.
Sponge, cream and filling: what is inside the cake
Every bento cake is made of sponge, cream cheese and a filling. The cream is the same in every cake, while the sponge and filling are up to you. The “1 sponge + 1 filling” rule means one kind of sponge and one filling per cake. The sponges and fillings are the same in every format: classic bento, bow bento, bento sets and Cake to go.
Start with the sponge, because it decides which fillings are available:
- Vanilla — a delicate, light sponge, the classic that lets any filling shine. It has seven fillings, including two you will only find with it: vanilla cream and caramel + banana.
- Chocolate — a rich sponge for those who love a deep cocoa flavour. It also has seven fillings; peanut + caramel (Snickers) and plain cream come only with this one.
- Red velvet — a velvety sponge that, with the light tang of the cream cheese, makes a cake that looks striking and tastes delicate. It comes with berry fillings only.
We cover cake weights and how many guests each size serves in our guide to what a bento cake is; here we focus on flavour.
All cake fillings, sponge by sponge
Here is the full list — exactly as it appears in the order form on the site:
| Sponge | Fillings to choose from | Options |
|---|---|---|
| Vanilla + cream cheese | banana, strawberry, cherry, raspberry, caramel, caramel + banana, vanilla cream | 7 |
| Chocolate + cream cheese | strawberry, raspberry, cherry, banana, caramel, peanut + caramel (Snickers), plain cream | 7 |
| Red velvet + cream cheese | strawberry, cherry, raspberry | 3 |
That makes 17 combinations in total. To narrow things down faster, it helps to know which fillings appear more than once:
- strawberry, cherry and raspberry go with all three sponges — the most versatile choice;
- banana and caramel — with vanilla and chocolate;
- caramel + banana and vanilla cream — with vanilla only;
- peanut + caramel and plain cream — with chocolate only.
You can see what each filling looks like inside a cake on our sponges and fillings page, where every sponge is shown with photos of all its options. For more photos of sliced cakes, see the “Tərkib” highlight on our Instagram, @vanilla_cake_az.
Which filling to choose: light or rich
With the list in front of you, it is easier to start not with a particular berry but with the kind of flavour you are after. All the fillings fall roughly into three groups:
- Berry — fresher. Strawberry, cherry and raspberry bring a little tartness and balance the smooth cream cheese nicely. The lightest option is vanilla sponge with berries.
- Mild — soft and gentle. Banana, plus vanilla cream (with the vanilla sponge) and plain cream (with the chocolate one). For anyone who wants neither tartness nor caramel.
- Caramel — the most indulgent. Caramel, caramel + banana and peanut + caramel (Snickers) are for those with a sweet tooth, especially paired with chocolate sponge.
Berries or caramel?
If the cake comes after a big meal, something fresher — a berry filling — usually goes down better. If the cake is the main dessert of the evening, with tea or coffee for two or a small group, go ahead with caramel. Chocolate sponge with cherry or raspberry is the happy medium: a rich sponge and berry tartness in one cake.
Fillings for the occasion: kids, guests, several flavours
A children’s party. Kids are easiest to please with familiar flavours and no surprises: chocolate sponge with banana or strawberry, or vanilla with banana or vanilla cream. You can pick a design with their favourite character and name in our kids’ bento cake catalogue; for the filling, go with one you know the child already loves.
Guests with different tastes. If the cake is for 7–8 people and you don’t know everyone’s preferences, go for neutral combinations — vanilla sponge with strawberry, or chocolate sponge with plain cream. Save bold options like Snickers for people you know love caramel.
Want to try several flavours? In a bento set of three or four mini cakes, you can choose one sponge and filling for the whole box or a different one for each cake — an easy way to have a little tasting or give everyone their favourite flavour. Cake to go in cups comes with the same sponges and fillings as the bento cakes.
A gender reveal. Boy or Girl cakes have a neutral design on the outside, while the answer hides inside — in the colour of the sponge or the filling. We explain how the surprise works in our article on the gender reveal cake.
The design can echo the filling too: strawberries piped on top and strawberry filling inside; cherries on the cream and a cherry filling; a chocolate-cream bear and chocolate sponge; a vivid red cake and red velvet. A few ideas from the catalogue:
How to choose the sponge and filling when you order
Every cake page has two fields below the size: “Sponge” and “Filling”. Choose the sponge first: the list in the next field updates straight away and shows only the fillings that go with it. Your choice goes into the WhatsApp message together with the size, date and lettering. The sponge and filling don’t affect the price — that depends on the size alone.
- Open the design you like in the bento cake catalogue and pick the size.
- In the “Sponge” field, choose vanilla, chocolate or red velvet.
- In the “Filling” field, pick one of the available fillings.
- Add the date, how you would like to receive the cake and the text for the lettering, then send the order on WhatsApp.
If you build the cake yourself in the online cake builder, the sponge and filling come at the very end: first the size, cream colour, pictures, lettering and border, then a 3D view of the cake — and only then the flavour. A link to the design image is added to the message automatically.
For a set with different fillings, just say in the message which mini cake gets which filling. And if you are unsure, message us on WhatsApp — we will help you find a combination that suits your occasion.
