For a baby month cake, small is best: for babies under a year, people usually order a 300–350 g bento for 25 ₼ — it is there for the photos and for the parents, not for a big party. We write the month and the name free of charge, and if you photograph your baby every month, we can make the cakes as a matching series. Below are ideas for coming home from hospital, 40 days, every month, half a year and the first tooth, plus advice on size and ordering in Baku.
Which first-year milestones to mark with a cake
A baby’s first year is full of small celebrations, and we have designs for almost every one of them: our kids’ bento cakes section holds more than a hundred, from little animals to cakes with the month number. Here are the main first-year occasions and ideas for each:
| Occasion | Ideas from our catalogue | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Coming home from hospital | A baby’s face with a dummy, a stork carrying a baby and “Welcome, little one” | Order as soon as you know the date |
| 40 days | A hippo in a party hat and “Already 40 days old” | Expecting guests? Choose the size to match the headcount |
| 1–11 months | Berries, fruit, bears, flowers and the month number | Pick one background for the whole year |
| Half a year | A bear in a party hat, a half-year message, “Half way to level one” | The colour can match your photo backdrop |
| First tooth | A crowned tooth with fairy wings and “First tooth” | We can include the number of teeth in the lettering |
The twelfth month is already the first birthday, and that has rules of its own: the number, the name, a favourite character. We cover it in detail in our article on the first birthday cake.
Coming home from hospital and 40 days
A cake for coming home
A baby’s first cake can appear before they have even come home. For leaving hospital, people order, for example, a peach bento with a baby’s face — round cheeks, a dummy, a blue tuft of hair — or a turquoise cake with a stork carrying a baby and “Welcome, little one”. If you want a treat for everyone who comes to meet you, a Cake to go set works well: cups decorated with a pram, a rattle, a dummy and teddies in blue and pink, with a wooden spoon and a candle included.
We take pre-orders only, and the earliest date the order form offers is two days ahead. So it is best to order the homecoming cake as soon as you know the date.
A 40-day cake
The fortieth day is a milestone that families in Baku mark in a special way. For this date we have a turquoise cake with a hippo in a party hat and “Already 40 days old”: cheerful, with coloured sprinkles, but no clutter. We can write the message in English, Russian (as in the photo) or Azerbaijani, and the hippo can be swapped for any other animal — send us a picture and we will recreate it.

If the family is gathering for the fortieth day, choose the size to suit the number of guests: 750–800 g for 3–4 people, 1200–1500 g for 7–8. If the cake is just for the photos and the two of you, the small one is enough.
A cake for every month: a photo series in one style
Many parents photograph their baby every month with a new cake and later put the pictures together into the story of the first year. To make the photos look like a series, we decorate the cakes in one style: the background and design stay the same, and only the number changes. Take the cherry series: red cherries with green stems on white cream, with “3 months”, “6 months” or any other month in the middle. The berries are piped in relief, so they show up well in photos.
There are similar series with other motifs:
- Bears — a chocolate bear with a magic wand, wearing a party hat or peeping over the edge of the cake;
- Lemons — a wreath of lemons, leaves and white blossom around the lettering, in a warm yellow and green palette;
- Petals — a wreath of pink petals and pearls, with the name and month in gold;
- Flowers — tiny flowers or gypsophila all over the surface, with the name and the month number;
- Berries and fruit — strawberries, oranges, watermelon: bright summer options.
Seasonal ideas
If a monthly milestone falls on a holiday, you can vary the series with a seasonal cake: a Christmas cake with gingerbread men and candy canes for babies born in December, a winter fawn with berries, a spring Novruz cake with semeni, pakhlava and shekerbura, and in summer a watermelon, strawberry or beach cake with a sun and a parasol.
It is best to order the next cake in advance: the order form offers dates from two days ahead. Sunday is our day off, and on Monday the earliest collection or delivery time is 17:00. If your baby’s monthly milestone falls on a Sunday, hold the photoshoot on Saturday or on Monday evening.
Half a year and the first tooth
Half a year is halfway to the first birthday, so the lettering on these cakes is often playful. There is a blue cake with a white bear in a party hat and a half-year message — we make the same design in pink and lilac too, to suit a boy or a girl or to match the photo backdrop. Gamer parents will enjoy the “Half way to level one” cake with a loading bar at 50%, and in summer you can choose a pink cake with a sun, a ball and a parasol.
The first tooth is a milestone people often forget, though it deserves a cake. For this occasion we pipe a crowned tooth with fairy wings or a tooth fairy, with the words “First tooth” alongside. The lettering can also include the number of teeth, the month and the name.
A few designs for different first-year dates — we can make any of them with your baby’s month and name:
Which size to choose
For babies under a year, people usually choose the small cake: it is there for the photos and for the parents. The price depends only on the size, not on the complexity of the design, so a cake with a detailed bear costs the same as a cake of the same size with just a number.
| Size | Weight | Good for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| For 1–2 people | 300–350 g | The monthly photoshoot, tea for mum and dad | 25 ₼ |
| For 3–4 people | 750–800 g | A small family celebration | 35 ₼ |
| For 7–8 people | 1200–1500 g | 40 days or half a year with guests | 60 ₼ |
The small cake comes in a white clamshell bento box. Its piped cream border runs along the top only; there is none at the base. Inside is sponge with cream cheese and a filling of your choice, following the rule “1 sponge + 1 filling”.
How to order a baby month cake in Baku
The simplest way is to pick a design from the catalogue and tell us which month and name to put on it. If you would rather design the cake yourself, build it in the online cake builder: choose the size and one of 19 cream colours, add a picture or upload your own photo — a snapshot of your baby, for instance — write up to three lines of text and pick the border. You can view the cake in 3D, and once you have chosen the sponge and filling, the order goes to WhatsApp, with a link to the design added to the message automatically.
This is especially handy for a series: build the design once, and in the following months just message us to say you would like the same cake with a new number. If you are not sure what to write besides the month, have a look at our cake lettering ideas.
And as your baby grows, our article on kids’ birthday cakes for ages 2 to 10 will come in handy, with ideas featuring cartoon characters, cars and space.
